Over the years, The Guardian Angels have empowered thousands of citizens to take responsibility for reclaiming their communities through the formation of local chapters.
Each chapter is comprised of volunteers that support the community through neighborhood patrols, education initiatives, role modeling, and liaising with other community organizations. If you think you might be interested in helping to transform your community, join us!

CHAPTER LEADER |
| Michael McDaniel | Michael was an original member of the 1983 Portland Chapter. When a drug house and multiple auto break-ins in his neighborhood failed to get his neighbors to come together and get involved, Michael reached out once again to the Guardian Angels. Finding no current chapter in Portland, he decided to begin anew. With the help of several veteran Angels and some new ones, he began patrolling the streets of Portland once again.

| SAFETY TIPS |
|
Portland is a wonderful place. Walking, shopping, bicycling, all are enjoyable. But it is important to be safe while doing these. Violent crime can happen anywhere, to anyone, but in places where people congregate the risk of this may be increased. Downtown and transit areas can be places where it is important to be vigilant. We've put together some tips to help keep you safe in these areas. |

| ABOUT US |
|
The Portland Chapter of the Guardian Angels originally began in 1983. By the time the third group of trainees graduated, the chapter had over 100 Angels. Patrols were so prevalent that at least one could be seen every night of the week, and on weekend nights there were often two or three patrols on the streets at the same time. Over time, and as is normal, participation dropped off due to school, family, career and other reasons. The chapter finally closed its doors in 1995. There was a ten year gap, with no Angels patrolling the streets of Portland.
